Trudeau Scrambles After Trump’s Tariffs As Top Canadian CEO Sides With Trump

Justin Trudeau just made another colossal mistake. In response to President Trump’s tariffs, the Canadian prime minister has decided to impose his own tariffs on American goods, a move that will hurt Canada far more than the United States. But don’t take my word for it—even Canada’s top business leaders are calling him out.

On Saturday, President Trump imposed tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China after they ignored his demands to address unfair trade practices and the flood of illegal immigrants and fentanyl pouring into the U.S. Trump’s tariffs include:

25% on all imports from Mexico
25% on nearly all Canadian imports (10% on Canadian energy)
10% on all imports from China

His reasoning? To protect American jobs, national security, and economic stability. And let’s be real—it’s long overdue.

Instead of taking Trump’s warnings seriously and fixing Canada’s trade abuses, Trudeau threw a political tantrum on Saturday, announcing 25% tariffs on $155 billion worth of American goods.

His message? The usual fear-mongering and finger-pointing:

“Tariffs against Canada will put your jobs at risk, potentially shutting down American auto assembly plants and other manufacturing facilities,” Trudeau whined. He even suggested that the U.S. can’t survive without Canada’s resources, as if America doesn’t have other trading partners.

But here’s the problem—Trudeau’s own country isn’t buying his nonsense. Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke, who built Canada’s second-largest publicly traded company, slammed Trudeau’s response as short-sighted and disastrous.

“Hitting back will not lead to anything good. America will shrug it off. Canada will decline.”

Lutke ripped Trudeau for failing to work with Trump on common-sense solutions like securing the border and cracking down on fentanyl. “These are things that every Canadian wants its government to do, too. These are not crazy demands.”

He warned that Trudeau’s tariffs will devastate small businesses and families while America barely feels the impact.

Lutke is absolutely right. The U.S. economy is too big and too strong for Trudeau’s tariff stunt to make a dent. Meanwhile, Canada’s dollar has already plummeted to its lowest level since 2003, and things are only going to get worse.

Instead of playing childish games, Trudeau should get serious about fixing trade issues, securing the border, and actually working with the U.S. But hey, when has Trudeau ever done the smart thing?
