Witch Hunt Continues as Leftist DA Seeks State Charges Against January 6 Protesters

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner, known for his soft-on-crime approach when it comes to leftist riots, is now exploring ways to prosecute Pennsylvania residents pardoned by President Trump for their involvement in the January 6 Capitol protests. Because apparently, in Krasner’s world, looting and burning down businesses is fine—so long as you’re doing it in the name of social justice—but stepping foot in the Capitol to protest? That requires accountability.

CNN’s Marshall Cohen reported Tuesday night that Krasner is digging through federal charging documents to find any potential loophole that could allow him to prosecute these individuals under Pennsylvania law. Krasner, a proud beneficiary of George Soros’ radical prosecutor machine, claims state prosecution could still be on the table for conduct that wasn’t “fully encompassed” in federal proceedings. However, legal experts are already pointing out the obvious: this stunt will likely run headfirst into constitutional protections against double jeopardy.

If history is any indication, Krasner’s grandstanding is unlikely to hold up in court. Similar attempts to prosecute individuals pardoned by Trump, such as former campaign manager Paul Manafort, failed due to legal safeguards that prevent re-litigation of the same alleged offenses. But that isn’t stopping Krasner from trying to revive the four-year-old witch hunt against Trump supporters while ignoring the rampant crime plaguing his own city.

The irony is rich. While Krasner is laser-focused on re-prosecuting Trump’s so-called “co-conspirators,” his office has a very different track record when it comes to the violent rioters who tore Philadelphia apart during the 2020 Black Lives Matter and Walter Wallace riots. In those cases, 80 percent of commercial burglary charges were quietly dropped, and an astounding 95 percent of the 2,000 arrested were let off the hook—even though the majority were repeat offenders. And what was the result? Widespread business closures, skyrocketing retail theft, and a city that’s becoming increasingly unlivable.

Krasner’s latest crusade comes conveniently just days after he received a primary challenge from former Philadelphia Judge Pat Dugan, who is hammering Krasner’s failure to address rampant crime in the city. As Dugan pointed out, even beloved local convenience store chain Wawa has been forced to shutter locations in the heart of Philadelphia due to skyrocketing theft and lawlessness.

At the end of the day, this desperate political stunt isn’t about justice—it’s about distraction. Instead of focusing on cleaning up his own city, Krasner would rather continue the Democrats’ obsession with persecuting Trump and his supporters. Meanwhile, the people of Philadelphia are left wondering when their elected officials will finally start prioritizing their safety over political theater.
