Watching a career law enforcement officer patiently explain the law to a progressive politician is always entertaining, especially when the politician shows up armed with nothing but talking points and misplaced confidence. That is exactly what happened at the Minnesota Capitol when Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino ran into Minnesota State Representative Sandra Feist after an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on the tv_show The Ingraham Angle.
Feist apparently felt compelled to lecture Bovino about immigration enforcement, despite the small detail that he enforces federal law for a living. This was not their first interaction. She had previously cursed at him for doing his job, which Bovino immediately addressed like a disappointed parent asking, “Did your parents teach you that? Where did you learn such foul language?” That line alone was enough to set the tone. Calm, controlled, and devastating.
The exchange was captured on video by Chad Caton, the National Field Director of the Conservative Caucus and former Trump campaign media surrogate, and posted on X for the world to enjoy. Bovino explained, without theatrics or anger, that Minnesotans regularly thank Border Patrol for keeping their communities safer. This did not sit well with Feist, who then tried to corner him with what she likely thought was a clever legal trap.
It went poorly for her.
FEIST: Why are you not arresting criminals? Why are so few of the people you have arrested and deported people with criminal records?
BOVINO: They’re all criminals. They’ve all crossed the border illegally.
FEIST: Crossing the border illegally is a civil offense.
BOVINO: No, 18 USC 1325, illegal entry is a federal crime.
At that moment, you could practically hear the sound of a narrative collapsing. Feist tried to recover by Googling the law in real time, which only confirmed Bovino was right. With facts no longer on her side, she shifted to shaming tactics and emotional appeals, arguing about deporting so called working illegals and claiming it somehow undermines public safety.

Bovino responded by citing nationwide drops in violent crime. Feist countered with the tired “correlation is not causation” line, then failed to name a single alternative cause when challenged. Predictably, she pivoted again, this time bringing up a recent ICE self-defense shooting and accusing the agent involved of wrongdoing. Bovino corrected her on the facts, again calmly, again accurately.
After several seconds of awkward texting, Feist asked who was filming and launched into a speech about her love for the First Amendment, citing her time on the board of the ACLU of Minnesota. Bovino then asked her about the Second Amendment. The enthusiasm vanished instantly. He pointed out her willingness to use violent rhetoric around children while pushing gun control, another contradiction she had no answer for.
With no facts left, no arguments standing, and no authority over the man she tried to lecture, Feist did what progressives do best when confronted with reality. She walked away in a huff.
