Trump Readies U.S. Military Muscle With 1,500 Soldiers Standing by for Minneapolis Chaos

The situation in Minneapolis has officially crossed into territory that even Washington can no longer pretend is normal. The Pentagon has placed 1,500 active duty U.S. soldiers on standby for possible deployment as days of sustained unrest, violence, and open attacks on federal law enforcement continue to spiral out of control in the Democrat run city.

The latest wave of chaos traces back to the January 7 shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis resident and self described “ICE Watch” agitator. Good was shot and killed after accelerating her vehicle toward an ICE agent who was standing directly in front of her. Multiple camera angles confirmed the agent was struck before opening fire. That detail has not stopped Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz from claiming the agent had no right to defend himself and urging protesters to flood the streets.

Those protests quickly turned violent. Rioters have attacked federal agents, destroyed vehicles, and in one particularly alarming incident, looted an FBI vehicle and stole a rifle. That theft followed another attack in which a Venezuelan illegal alien ambushed an ICE agent with a shovel. The agent shot the attacker in the leg and took him into custody. Federal authorities later arrested a Latin Kings gang member and several other agitators tied to the stolen rifle, a fact that should have ended any debate about what kind of crowd is being encouraged here.

Instead, the violence escalated further over the weekend. On Saturday, controversial activist Jake Lang was assaulted by a mob and allegedly stabbed after attempting to burn a Quran near Minneapolis City Hall. Several people with Lang were also attacked, suffering visible injuries. Elsewhere in the city, roaming mobs attacked random individuals they believed were affiliated with ICE or counter protests. In one case, leftists beat a man wearing a camo jacket before realizing he was actually “on their side.” That is the level of mob mentality now on display.

Late Saturday night, CBS News reported that the Pentagon had placed 1,500 active duty troops on standby for potential deployment. Some of the units are reportedly based in Alaska. At the same time, the Minnesota National Guard has been mobilized, with Governor Walz’s office announcing that Guard members will wear neon vests to distinguish themselves from other agencies. The announcement raised eyebrows, especially given Walz’s repeated claims that Minnesota is “at war” with the federal government.

All of this comes as President Trump has openly discussed invoking the Insurrection Act. In a Truth Social post, President Trump warned that if Minnesota politicians refuse to obey the law and rein in what he called “professional agitators and insurrectionists,” he will act to restore order. The Insurrection Act allows the president to deploy active duty military forces or federalize the National Guard to suppress civil disorder when state authorities fail or refuse to act.

The law has been used 30 times in American history, most recently during the Los Angeles riots in 1992. Minneapolis now appears to be racing toward that same outcome. When local leaders side with mobs over law enforcement and treat federal agents as enemies, they should not be shocked when Washington steps in. Order is not optional, and the federal government still has a responsibility to enforce the law, whether city hall likes it or not.
