Trump Picks Legendary Lawyer for White House Position

President-elect Trump has tapped a key Republican ally, Harmeet Dhillon, for the position of Assistant U.S. Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division, signaling a commitment to fight the lawfare and political weaponization seen over the past eight years. Trump made the announcement Monday evening in a post on Truth Social, praising Dhillon for her dedication to civil liberties, election integrity, and her vocal opposition to pandemic-related lockdowns.

“I am pleased to nominate Harmeet K. Dhillon as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice,” Trump wrote. “Throughout her career, Harmeet has stood up consistently to protect our cherished Civil Liberties, including taking on Big Tech for censoring our Free Speech, representing Christians who were prevented from praying together during the pandemic, and suing corporations who use woke policies to discriminate against their workers. Harmeet is one of the top Election lawyers in the Country, fighting to ensure that all, and ONLY, legal votes are counted.”

Dhillon, the Republican National Committeewoman for California, is expected to serve under Trump’s pick for Attorney General, Pam Bondi, the former Florida AG, should Bondi be confirmed by the Senate. The nomination of Dhillon for this crucial Justice Department role is part of Trump’s broader strategy to place loyalists in key positions who share his vision of restoring fairness and transparency to government institutions.

A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and a former clerk for the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, Dhillon brings extensive legal experience to the role. Known for her fierce defense of constitutional rights, she has taken on high-profile cases challenging Big Tech censorship, pandemic-related infringements on religious freedoms, and discriminatory “woke” corporate policies. Her nomination also brings a degree of diversity to Trump’s team, as Dhillon is a practicing Sikh.

Dhillon gained prominence within the Republican National Committee after challenging Ronna McDaniel for the chairmanship in 2023. Though McDaniel retained the position with Trump’s backing, Dhillon garnered significant grassroots support by promising to reform the RNC’s consultant culture and prioritize election integrity. Ever the team player, Dhillon called for party unity after the race, urging Republicans to focus on the battles ahead.

In addition to Dhillon’s nomination, Trump endorsed K.C. Crosbie for the role of RNC Co-Chair, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a fiscally responsible and effective party apparatus that prioritizes election integrity.

By appointing Dhillon, Trump is sending a clear message: his administration will prioritize protecting civil liberties, upholding election integrity, and ensuring that justice is applied without partisan bias. Dhillon’s track record suggests she is more than ready to take on the challenges ahead, making her an essential part of Trump’s plan to restore confidence in the Department of Justice.
