Sunny Hostin, co-host of ABC’s The View, faced an embarrassing moment on Tuesday after making inflammatory accusations against Congressman Matt Gaetz that required an on-air correction. During the segment, Hostin attempted to tie Gaetz to allegations of misconduct that had been thoroughly investigated and dismissed by the Department of Justice.
Hostin claimed Gaetz was linked to discredited accusations involving improper conduct across state lines, accusations that have long been denied and ultimately led to no charges. She was soon forced to clarify her remarks by reading a legal note live on air. “Matt Gaetz has long denied all allegations, calling the claims invented and saying in a statement to NBC News that this false smear following a three-year criminal investigation should be viewed with great skepticism,” Hostin read. “The DOJ investigation was closed with no charges being brought.”
WOW! @TheView Legal Team had to shut down Sonny Hostin’s insufferable “pie hole” within 3 minutes of her claiming Matt Gaetz had sex with a 17 year old!

This moment comes as Gaetz, a vocal ally of President-elect Trump, prepares for what is likely to be a heated Senate confirmation process for his nomination as Attorney General. Gaetz’s selection signals Trump’s intent to overhaul the Department of Justice, an institution many conservatives believe has become deeply politicized. As Attorney General, Gaetz would wield significant authority to pursue investigations into corruption and alleged abuses of power within government agencies.
Trump’s commitment to Gaetz’s confirmation is clear. According to Axios, Trump has personally lobbied key Republican senators to secure support for Gaetz’s nomination. Among those contacted was Senator Kevin Cramer of North Dakota, who said Trump strongly believes Gaetz is the right person to lead the Department of Justice. “He clearly wants Matt Gaetz,” Cramer told Axios. “He believes Matt Gaetz is the one person who will have the fearlessness and ferociousness, really, to do what needs doing at the Department of Justice.”
Cramer added, “One thing about Donald Trump, people should never confuse his support for one of his nominees as a tactical or strategic tool for somebody else. And at least to this point, he’s putting his own political capital behind it. And he’s a pretty persuasive guy.”
Hostin’s failed attempt to undermine Gaetz serves as a reminder of the challenges he’ll face during his confirmation process. However, with Trump’s backing and Gaetz’s reputation for fighting back against critics, his nomination is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched political battles of Trump’s second term.
