A rare but infuriating moment of GOP betrayal played out on the Senate floor tonight, as four Republican senators joined hands with Democrats to pass a resolution gutting President Trump’s Canadian tariff strategy—a major component of his fight to curb fentanyl and protect American manufacturing.
The vote passed 51-48, with the help of these usual suspects:
- Susan Collins (RINO–Maine)
- Mitch McConnell (Swamp–Kentucky)
- Lisa Murkowski (Democrat-in-disguise–Alaska)
- Rand Paul (Disappointment–Kentucky)
You read that right. Rand Paul, who should know better, went ahead and co-sponsored the bill with liberal darling Tim Kaine (D-VA). The same Tim Kaine who thinks Canada’s a misunderstood partner and Trump’s emergency declaration is the real problem—not the flood of fentanyl taking American lives by the thousands.
The bill, deceptively framed as a resolution to “end Trump’s national emergency regarding Canada,” is just another power grab. Kaine’s resolution directly undermines Trump’s authority to slap tariffs on Canada—a country that’s not only undercutting us on trade, but also being suspiciously cozy with Chinese chemical exports fueling the fentanyl epidemic.
President Trump declared the national emergency in 2023 after Canadian ports were found to be major hubs for precursor chemicals used in fentanyl production. His tariffs were meant to hold Canada accountable and force the Trudeau regime to take the crisis seriously. But apparently, Mitch McConnell and friends care more about appeasing their globalist donors than saving American lives.
McConnell has long trashed Trump’s tariffs because, let’s be honest, he never liked America First to begin with. Murkowski and Collins? Well, they’re basically Democrats with better parking spots. But Rand Paul’s betrayal stings the most—because we used to expect a little backbone from the guy who lectures everyone on liberty. Guess that ends when Big Maple Syrup gets involved.
Trump, for his part, didn’t mince words. In a fiery Truth Social post this morning, he demanded the four Republicans “hold Canada accountable for poisoning our people” and stop “playing right into the Democrats’ hands.” He’s already promised to veto this nonsense if it ever reaches his desk, which, thankfully, is unlikely since the House has no appetite for it.
Still, the damage is done. The Democrats now have a shiny talking point: Bipartisan rebuke of Trump’s tariffs! And they have four Republican enablers to thank for it.
So here’s the real question: When did standing up to fentanyl and fighting for American jobs become a bridge too far for the so-called “conservatives” in our own party?
Maybe it’s time we rescind their seats instead.
