Senate Democrats Introduce Bill to Abolish Electoral College

A group of Senate Democrats is once again pushing to abolish the Electoral College, a move that would fundamentally alter the way Americans choose their president. Their latest proposal would replace the centuries-old system with a direct popular vote, handing power to densely populated urban areas and effectively sidelining the voices of rural America and smaller states.

The bill was announced on Monday by the Senate Judiciary Committee, which described it as an effort to “restore democracy by allowing the direct election of presidents through popular vote alone.” While this phrasing may sound appealing, in reality, it’s a direct assault on the balance of power that the Founding Fathers carefully designed to ensure all states—large and small—have a voice in presidential elections.

Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI) made his disdain for the current system clear. “In an election, the person who gets the most votes should win. It’s that simple. No one’s vote should count for more based on where they live. The Electoral College is outdated and it’s undemocratic. It’s time to end it,” Schatz said. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) echoed this sentiment, claiming, “It is time to retire this 18th century invention that disenfranchises millions of Americans. The American people deserve to choose all their leaders.”

But let’s not kid ourselves: this isn’t about fairness or democracy. This is about consolidating power in the hands of coastal elites and urban strongholds that overwhelmingly favor Democrats. The Electoral College exists precisely to prevent a handful of populous states from deciding the outcome of every presidential election. It ensures that candidates must appeal to a broad coalition of voters across the entire country, not just pander to the whims of New York and California.

Ever since Hillary Clinton lost to Trump in 2016, despite winning the popular vote, Democrats have been on a crusade to dismantle the Electoral College. They can’t seem to accept that the system worked exactly as intended by giving weight to the voices of voters in Middle America. Without the Electoral College, the votes of rural Americans in states like Iowa, Wyoming, and North Dakota would be drowned out by the sheer numbers in urban centers.

Hillary Clinton herself called for the abolition of the Electoral College back in 2018, and now her allies in the Senate are picking up the torch. The truth is, Democrats want to make sure the system works in their favor. They want a system where California, New York, and a few other liberal strongholds call the shots, leaving the rest of the country voiceless.

The Electoral College is a safeguard against the tyranny of the majority, and its abolition would destroy the delicate balance that makes our republic work. This isn’t about restoring democracy; it’s about reshaping it to fit the desires of the Left. Middle America, beware. The Democrats are coming for your voice.

  • The cheating Democrats have been working for decades now to make this country a one-party political nightmare, so why wouldn’t they want to cancel the Electoral College? They know the overpopulated East and West Coast will “most” often vote liberal. Yes, it didn’t work this time but that is because a complete idiot was running on the Democrat ticket and America just had four years of the worst president the country has ever witnessed.
