There has been significant criticism directed towards the media and the Biden campaign for their alleged heavy editing of a speech given by Trump.
In his speech, Trump discussed China’s plans to build large car manufacturing plants in Mexico. He stated, “China is now constructing several massive factories where they plan to produce cars in Mexico. They believe they can sell these cars in the United States without any border tax.”
Trump continued, addressing China directly, “I want to make it clear to China and President Xi – we are friends, but he knows how I operate. You’re building these huge car manufacturing plants in Mexico, and you think you can avoid hiring Americans and sell those cars to us?”
He further added, “If I’m elected, we will impose a 100% tariff on every single car that crosses the border. You won’t be able to sell those cars here. If I don’t get elected, it will be disastrous for the country.” He then proceeded with more discussions about cars and factories.

The Biden campaign released a statement after the speech with a shortened clip of Trump’s comments without providing context.
The media quickly followed suit with similar headlines.
Hey @MyahWard when are you retracting this article? You write, "While it was unclear what the former president meant exactly." Is it standard practice for you to cover events you don't watch? He was talking about the car manufacturing industry. pic.twitter.com/QNVNqOdTUq https://t.co/TDtPpZuwBl

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough also shared the edited information on Twitter. However, he deleted the post after Elon Musk publicly challenged him.
The following morning, Scarborough expressed his frustration about Musk’s criticism.
