Governor Gavin Newsom is once again under fire, this time for his tone-deaf response to the catastrophic wildfires tearing through Los Angeles County. His latest initiative, dubbed “Reimagining LA 2.0,” is supposed to be a bold plan to rebuild the city with modernization and resilience in mind—especially with the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics looming. But after a disastrous national TV appearance, it’s clear that Newsom’s leadership is as shaky as the ground beneath California.
Newsom sat down with NBC’s Jacob Soboroff in Altadena, an area ravaged by the Eaton Fire, to pitch his recovery plan. Instead of projecting strength and clarity, Newsom delivered a cringe-worthy performance filled with rambling word salads and bizarre hand gestures. Viewers were left baffled by his defensive posture and evasive answers.
One glaring moment stood out: when asked why critical reservoirs like the Santa Ynez Reservoir—a facility with a capacity of 117 million gallons—were left bone dry during the fires, Newsom had no explanation. That reservoir could have been vital in fighting the fires, yet Newsom seemed clueless. For a state constantly battling wildfires, how does the governor not know why water resources were mismanaged? This is a question Californians deserve an answer to.
Rather than taking responsibility, Newsom deflected blame onto his favorite target, President Trump. “Responding to Donald Trump’s insults, we would spend another month,” he complained. Newsom even suggested that Trump’s past aid to California was politically motivated, claiming Trump only sent help when he realized Orange County voted for him. This petty blame game does nothing to address California’s dire situation.
Newsom’s grand solution? A so-called “Marshall Plan” for rebuilding LA. But when Soboroff pressed for details, Newsom admitted the plan is still being “laid out.” In other words, it doesn’t exist. While homes are burning and families are displaced, Newsom is holding meetings and making vague promises. There’s no concrete plan—just more political theater.
🔥🔥🔥 THIS SHOULD FRIGHTEN YOU:@GavinNewsom said re: his “Marshall Plan”:
“We already have a team reimagining LA 2.0.”
WHAT? He’s ALREADY had that team. Pre-fire. This means no single family zoning, public transit for ALL, equity/climate/DEI agenda.
We need new leaders,… pic.twitter.com/Bi0WnFxZDC

Tying this “recovery” effort to LA’s SmartLA 2028 strategy raises more concerns. This tech-driven initiative, aligned with the United Nations’ Agenda 2030, focuses on transforming LA into a hyper-connected “smart city.” Critics argue that the wildfires are being used as a convenient excuse to fast-track controversial development projects. It’s no surprise conspiracy theories are circulating, suggesting these fires conveniently clear the way for elite-backed smart cities.
Newsom’s “Reimagining LA 2.0” is nothing more than political smoke and mirrors. California needs real leadership, not empty words and finger-pointing.
