Well, there it is. Maxine Waters (D-CA), never one for subtlety, just said the quiet part out loud during a House Financial Services Committee hearing on Wednesday. And if you had any doubt that Democrats are in full-blown panic mode over Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Waters’ little slip-up should clear that right up.
Musk announced earlier this week that DOGE will be investigating federal bureaucrats who somehow manage to amass tens of millions of dollars while working government jobs that pay maybe a few hundred thousand per year. It’s a great question: How do these people mysteriously get rich on taxpayer salaries?
Musk put it bluntly: “We do find it sort of rather odd that there are quite a few people in the bureaucracy who have essentially a salary of a few hundred thousand dollars but somehow manage to accrue tens of millions of dollars in net worth while they are in that position.”
You don’t say.
This announcement came just as DOGE gained access to several federal departments—including USAID and the Department of Treasury—meaning Musk and his team now have the receipts. And the people who have been feeding at the taxpayer trough for decades? Yeah, they’re panicking.
Enter Maxine Waters, who—while interrogating Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell—demanded to know whether Musk would be allowed to audit the Fed. Powell dodged the question, but Waters didn’t stop there. She let her fear slip right into the microphone:
“Well, you know what happened at Treasury, and you know what happened over at the CFPB,” Waters said. “People of this country are being violated because all of our privacy has been taken up by Elon Musk and Trump. And we don’t know what they have on us.”

Uh oh!
That’s it, right there. That’s the panic. Not we don’t know what’s happening, but we don’t know what they have on us. Because let’s be real: they know what they’ve done.
The swamp is scared. And for good reason.
As for auditing the Federal Reserve? Hey, maybe Ron Paul can finally get the job done. But one thing’s for sure—DOGE is right on target, and the guilty parties in D.C. know the clock is ticking.
