Josh Hawley Torches Wray and Mayorkas Over Drone Sightings and Government Silence

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) is calling out FBI Director Christopher Wray and DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over their refusal to address the ongoing surge of mysterious drone sightings plaguing New Jersey and other parts of the Northeast. The lack of transparency, coupled with the cancellation of a critical security hearing, has led to mounting frustration from both lawmakers and the public.

Speaking to Fox News, Hawley expressed his concern over Wray and Mayorkas skipping the annual “Worldwide Threats to the Homeland” hearing, initially scheduled for November 20. This hearing is a critical opportunity for the Senate to question top officials about emerging national security threats. The postponement to an unspecified December date has only deepened suspicions. Now that December is more than halfway over, no new hearing date has been set, adding to the growing unease.

“The director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, and the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, were supposed to testify under oath in the Senate on threats to the homeland,” Hawley said. “They canceled it a couple of weeks ago, they have refused to re-schedule.” Instead, aides from the departments are offering a closed-door briefing on Thursday, which Hawley argues lacks the transparency that the American people deserve.

Hawley didn’t mince words when addressing the bizarre secrecy. “They do not want to talk about this in public. They don’t want to answer questions about it. This is really weird and it’s getting weirder,” he stated.

Hawley isn’t the only one demanding answers. Senator Gary Peters (D-MI), who chairs the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, also slammed the decision to cancel the hearing. Peters labeled the move a “shocking departure,” noting it was the first time in 15 years that both the FBI and DHS heads refused to provide public testimony on national security threats. Peters argued that the American people are being denied crucial information about their safety.

The lack of information on the drone sightings has fueled speculation and frustration. Hawley pointed to conflicting statements from Biden Administration officials like Mayorkas and National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby, who have blamed the sightings on misidentified civilian drones or aircraft. However, Hawley isn’t buying it. “When we’re shutting down Air Force bases, when commercial airliners are interfered with, that’s weird,” Hawley said. “You can’t tell me the government doesn’t know what’s going on.”

Hawley’s concerns are shared by many who see the drone issue as a serious threat to national security. The lack of public accountability from the Biden Administration, combined with the postponement of key hearings, only adds to the mystery. The American people deserve clear answers, and Hawley is determined to get them.
