Jim Acosta has finally left CNN, and in the most predictable way possible—playing the victim while ranting about President Trump. After years of self-aggrandizing, fake moral outrage, and turning press briefings into personal soapboxes, Acosta has decided to go independent—which, in reality, means he’s now a blogger on Substack.
On Tuesday, Acosta took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his big career move:
“Hey guys! I’ve started something new. Go check it out!” he wrote, linking to a video announcement where he once again referred to Trump as a “tyrant.” Because, of course, he did.

Acosta’s departure didn’t happen by choice. CNN demoted him to a midnight time slot—the journalistic equivalent of exile—after his show tanked in the ratings. Rather than suffer the humiliation, Acosta chose to dramatically quit and attempt to rebrand himself as an “independent journalist” on Substack.
In his farewell video, Acosta tried to frame his exit as some noble stand against authoritarianism, saying: “Don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to the fear. Hold on to the truth and hope.”
Translation: CNN pushed me out, and now I have to pretend this was my plan all along.
Of course, President Trump wasted no time responding to Acosta’s departure, delivering a scorching takedown on Truth Social:
“Wow, really good news! Jim Acosta, one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history, a major sleazebag, has been relegated by CNN Fake News to the Midnight hour, “Death Valley,” because of extraordinarily BAD RATINGS (and no talent!).”
Trump then added:
“Word is that he wants to QUIT, and that would be even better. Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim!”
Brutal. But entirely accurate.
Let’s be real—Acosta isn’t going “independent” because he’s suddenly a champion of free speech. He got kicked to the curb by CNN, a network that is already collapsing in the ratings. If even they didn’t think Acosta was worth keeping around, what does that say?
His move to Substack is nothing more than a last-ditch effort to stay relevant among the handful of Resistance™ diehards still clinging to the Russia hoax and January 6 hysteria.
Bottom line? Acosta went from CNN’s loudest anti-Trump activist to an unemployed blogger overnight—and no one will miss him.
Jim Acosta is a small loss to society and TV news/propaganda. I’ll bet he doesn’t set the world on fire with the number of followers during his next adventure.
