Hollywood Megadonor George Clooney Pushes Democrats to Back New 2028 Candidate

Hollywood megadonor and lifelong liberal George Clooney may have helped torpedo Joe Biden’s re-election bid, but he’s wasting no time pushing his next Democratic darling—Maryland Governor Wes Moore—as the party’s leading light heading into 2028.

After hosting a glitzy Beverly Hills fundraiser for Biden earlier this year, Clooney shocked the political world by penning a blunt op-ed questioning the president’s cognitive fitness. That public defection was widely seen as a tipping point in Biden’s decision to bow out of the 2024 race, sparking chaos within the Democratic establishment.

But Clooney’s political ambitions clearly didn’t end with Biden. In a recent interview with the New York Post, the actor touted Gov. Wes Moore as the man Democrats should rally around for the next presidential election cycle.

“Who I think is levitating above that is Wes Moore,” Clooney said, placing Moore ahead of fellow Democrat governors like Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Andy Beshear of Kentucky.

Clooney praised Moore’s military background, his reaction to the March 2024 Baltimore bridge collapse, and his previous role at the Soros-backed Robin Hood Foundation—a hedge fund-style philanthropic group that blends finance with activism.

“He’s smart. He speaks beautifully. He’s a proper leader,” Clooney gushed. “I like him a lot. I think he could be someone we could all join in behind.”

But not so fast. While Moore’s resume might impress elite donors in Malibu and Manhattan, his record isn’t spotless. As Axios reported, Moore falsely claimed in a 2006 White House Fellowship application that he received a Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan. That honor was never actually awarded. Moore later said his commanders had “recommended” the award and advised him to list it.

Intentional or not, the misrepresentation helped him win a prestigious fellowship—and it’s already resurfacing as the vetting season begins in earnest.

Moore’s defenders say the mix-up was based on honest guidance from military leadership. His critics, however, view it as another case of résumé inflation by a career-climber who knows how to play the D.C. game.

Whether Clooney’s endorsement carries any serious weight outside of Hollywood remains skeptical if you ask me, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
