Adam Schiff, the former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, might be in serious hot water. A new report, brought to light by John Solomon at Just the News, suggests that Schiff may have committed election fraud—and possibly tax fraud—by claiming *two* principal residences in different states. Schiff, who’s running for the U.S. Senate in California, has declared both his California and Maryland homes as his “principal residence” on various mortgage and election filings. According to the law, you can only have one principal residence, and Schiff’s claims could spell big trouble for him.
The report reveals that Schiff alternated between his California and Maryland homes, claiming each one as his “principal residence” at different times. This could not only disqualify him from holding office in California but also open the door to criminal charges. In several cases between 2003 and 2020, Schiff allegedly declared his Maryland home as his principal residence while also listing his California property the same way on voter registration forms. This double-dealing provided Schiff with tax breaks, lower mortgage rates, and the ability to run in a California House district.
But the scandal doesn’t end there. Schiff’s shifty moves first came under scrutiny when Christine Bish, a real estate investigator and Republican congressional candidate, filed an ethics complaint against him. Her investigation found that Schiff only changed his Maryland home’s designation to “secondary residence” in 2020, which she argues is an admission of guilt. Bish alleges Schiff’s actions may constitute mortgage and tax fraud, both of which carry significant penalties.
Retired FBI agent Jeff Danik reviewed the documents and called the allegations “serious,” noting that if proven, they could lead to significant criminal charges. According to Danik, the Justice Department has a robust fraud enforcement division that handles cases like this, and with the 10-year statute of limitations on bank fraud, Schiff could still face an investigation.
Schiff, who has long been a thorn in the side of Republicans, especially for his role in pushing the now-debunked Trump-Russia collusion narrative, could soon find himself facing his own legal reckoning. With a possible ethics investigation and criminal charges looming, this scandal could very well be the beginning of the end for “Shifty Schiff.”
