It’s almost impressive how fast Democrats can pivot from pouting over a political loss to plotting the next manufactured crisis. You would think after a 43 day shutdown that irritated just about everyone outside the Georgetown cocktail circuit, they might have learned a thing or two. Instead, Rep. Stephen Lynch of Massachusetts went on CNN and basically waved a little red flag announcing the next round of chaos his party is itching to unleash in Washington.
Lynch complained to Omar Jimenez that he was furious, his word, that the government reopened. Most Americans were relieved to see workers finally get paid and agencies return to some version of normal, but Lynch acted like someone stole his parking spot. According to RNC Research, he even hinted that Democrats might take another stab at shutting down the government in January when the continuing resolution expires. Because nothing says responsible governance like holding the paychecks of a million workers hostage so you can score cable news points.
Democrat Rep. Stephen Lynch says he is "furious" that the government reopened and suggests the Democrats will shut down the government again in January.

He whined about senators who supposedly bailed on the House Democrats’ grand strategy, whatever that was, and then suggested January might bring a new chance for mischief. He insisted they should worry more about the people they represent, which is ironic considering the people they represent were the ones missing paychecks for more than a month while he and his colleagues played brinkmanship games. The only spines that need stiffening are the ones in a party that cannot accept that President Trump is actually getting things done without them.
President Trump signed the legislation that ended the historic shutdown, and it wasn’t a half measure. The bill funds most federal agencies through January 30, 2026, and locks in full year appropriations for Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and the legislative branch. It restores pay and back pay to more than a million federal workers, including the six hundred fifty thousand who are returning to work immediately. That is what leadership looks like. Not posturing on CNN about how nice another shutdown might be.
House Speaker Mike Johnson called the measure a clean resolution that reopens government and restores services. He is right. Senate Democrats grumbled about not getting extra subsidies for the Affordable Care Act, which is always their priority, even during a shutdown. The contrast could not be clearer. One side is trying to govern. The other is out here teasing another intentional train wreck, as if Americans have not had enough of those already.
