Comedian Who Backed Trump Now Calls for Impeachment – Fans Stunned by Flip

Libertarian comedian and frequent Joe Rogan Experience guest Dave Smith has officially jumped off the Trump train—and not quietly. During a June 16 appearance on Breaking Points with Saagar Enjeti and Krystal Ball, Smith not only rescinded his prior endorsement of President Trump, he went full scorched earth, calling for Trump’s impeachment over what he claims is a betrayal of the America First foreign policy.

Smith, who backed Trump in 2024 largely due to the president’s pledge to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht—the controversial founder of the Silk Road—now says the support was a “bad calculation.” And let’s be honest, that’s a big shift for a guy who made a name defending Trump to a libertarian-leaning crowd, especially when the rest of Hollywood and the comedy world was doing backflips to bash him.

The comedian turned political commentator tore into Trump’s recent handling of foreign policy—though notably vague on specifics—suggesting that Trump has crossed a line that’s “comparable to negotiating after Pearl Harbor.” That’s a pretty dramatic metaphor coming from someone who once praised Trump for avoiding new wars. According to Smith, whatever the incident was (likely tied to Iran, if you’re reading between the lines), it’s enough to justify impeachment—not over “some ridiculous Nancy Pelosi-type grounds,” as he put it, but because “this is the one thing [Congress] actually supports.”

Translation? Smith’s real beef isn’t with Trump per se—it’s with Trump allegedly folding under pressure to the D.C. war machine. That’s a valid concern among libertarians, but let’s also not pretend this is the same as impeachment over a phone call to Ukraine.

Smith went further, predicting the collapse of Trump’s base over this move: “All of his supporters should turn on him… it’s the absolute betrayal of everything—everything that he ran and campaigned on.”

Look, Dave Smith is entitled to his opinion, but let’s not act like Trump’s coalition is going to implode because a libertarian podcaster got his feelings hurt over foreign policy. Trump has weathered bigger storms than this, including fake Russia hoaxes, two bogus impeachments, and a media-industrial complex out for his head. And unlike career politicians, Trump still has more credibility with working Americans than half of Congress combined.

If Smith wants to bail, fine. But don’t expect MAGA country to follow. They’re not logging off Truth Social just because a guy with a microphone says he’s mad.
