President Trump is making good on his promise to drain the swamp, and his latest move could send hundreds of thousands of federal employees packing. According to a bombshell report from Axios, Trump is expected to issue a memo offering paid resignations for federal workers who don’t want to return to in-person work—but there’s a catch: they must resign by February 6 to receive the deal.
The Office of Personnel Management has confirmed the plan, describing it as administrative leave with full pay and benefits for those who accept the offer. If employees choose to resign under the program, they will continue to be paid through September 30, 2025, but will be exempt from all in-person work requirements. The White House expects 5 to 10 percent of federal workers to take the deal, potentially saving taxpayers over $100 billion per year.
This move comes as part of a massive federal workforce overhaul, following executive orders Trump signed immediately after being sworn in on January 20. Those orders include:
✅ Ending remote work across the federal government
✅ Reinstating accountability for policy-making employees
✅ Reforming federal hiring practices to focus on merit, not DEI quotas
✅ Reclassifying thousands of government positions to remove excessive job protections
Trump’s administration made it clear that telework abuse and bureaucratic inefficiency will no longer be tolerated. A government-wide email sent to agency heads this week stated:
“Employees who choose to remain in their positions cannot be given full assurance regarding the certainty of their role, but should their position be eliminated, they will be treated with dignity and afforded the protections in place for such situations.”
Translation? If you don’t take the resignation package now, your job may not be safe in the future.
DEI Programs Eliminated
Trump isn’t stopping at remote work. The administration also announced that all government DEI offices have been shut down, with more than 400 DEI employees placed on administrative leave last Wednesday.
A senior administration official told Axios:
“We’re five years past C-V-D, and just 6 percent of federal employees work full-time in the office. That is unacceptable.”
With a hiring freeze in place, tougher standards for federal employment, and a clear directive to restore efficiency, Trump is once again proving that he means business.
The swamp is officially on notice.
