President Trump isn’t just tweeting about liberal media bias anymore—he’s hitting the budget where it hurts. On Monday, the Trump administration formally submitted a $9.3 billion rescission package to Congress, and sitting right in the crosshairs is the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the government sugar daddy for NPR and PBS. After years of left-wing propaganda disguised as “news” and “children’s programming,” the days of taxpayer-funded liberal media might finally be numbered.
The proposal calls for the total elimination of federal funding for public broadcasting, slashing a whopping $1.1 billion from CPB. Also in the fiscal firing line: $8.3 billion in foreign aid through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), which the administration labeled as riddled with “waste, fraud, and abuse.” The Office of Management and Budget (OMB), led by budget hawk Russ Vought, crafted the plan at the request of GOP leadership—who finally have the numbers on Capitol Hill to back it up.
Let’s be real. NPR and PBS haven’t been neutral in decades. They’re not delivering fair journalism or public education. They’re pushing taxpayer-funded activism. Remember when NPR’s new CEO, Katherine Maher, called President Trump a “fascist” and a “deranged racist”? That wasn’t 2016. That was her job interview. She later told Congress she regrets saying it—probably because she got caught, not because she changed her mind.
This isn’t just about salty comments or opinionated anchors. The memo outlines that the CPB has a “lengthy history of anti-conservative bias.” PBS, too, was cited for recent children’s programming that includes transgender themes—because nothing says “public service” like grooming toddlers with taxpayer dollars.
Conservatives have had enough, and rightly so. For decades, Republicans were told they had to keep funding these outlets for the sake of “civic virtue” and “cultural literacy,” while being smeared on-air as extremists, racists, and backwards hicks. Now, with both chambers of Congress under GOP control and Trump back in the Oval Office, it’s time to stop feeding the beast.
The 45-day congressional review window has officially started. If lawmakers approve the measure—and signs are promising—it’ll mark the most aggressive Republican rollback of taxpayer-funded media in modern history.
President Trump said it best: “DEFUND NPR and PBS. Horrible and completely biased platforms.” For once, the swamp might actually listen.
