But Dáte, as usual, wasn’t interested in that. He sent Leavitt a self-important question: Why Budapest? Doesn’t the president understand the historical significance of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum? Cue the dramatic music. The implication was crystal clear: Dáte was trying to paint President Trump as either ignorant of history or insensitive to Ukraine’s feelings all wrapped in the kind of passive-aggressive tone you’d expect from a liberal activist pretending to be a reporter.
